Gibbula cineraria (Linnaeus, 1758)(southern morphotype)
Shell from Tangiers, Morocco (col. MNHN) (actual size 10 mm)
Description The southern populations of this species, in Portugal and Morocco, are quite different from those present on the coasts of NW Europe, usually with a high-conical shape and more red component in the colour pattern. They can be distinguished readily from Jujubinus spp. by the presence of an umbilicus.
