The University Centre for Statistics (UCS) of the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven has been created in 1988 as an interfaculty institute, providing a coordinating link between all university research centres dealing with statistics. Currently about 25 such centres, (spread over 11 different faculties) are involved in the activities of the UCS.
The main activities of the UCS refer to teaching, research and consulting within and outside the university.
From 1997 till 2001, we were involved in a research project on ‘Integrated and Dynamical Oceanographic Data Management’ of the North Sea. The UCS took up the responsibility for all the statistical and data analysis research such as quality control of data, design of database, incorporation and calibration of mathematical model results.
