The small bioluminescent ophiuroid constitutes a suitable model for studying microevolution in marine biotopes. This research presents several approaches: characterization of variability (genetics, luminous capabilities, life-history traits, biotic and abiotic environment, etc.) and determination of parameters which have effects on individual fitness (prey/predator interactions, parasitism, competition).
