The NW Indian Ocean consists of a number of warm water basins separated from one another by a cold water barrier. One can expect that this situation leads to population differentiation and, in the long run, speciation of marine organisms that can only live in tropical temperatures. This hypothesis is tested by phylogeographic analysis of DNA sequence data.
