When levelling through openings in the lock gates, breaking logs can be provided to provide additional energy dissipation. This results in lower forces on the vessels. Various design studies have raised a number of questions related to the number of breaking logs, the shape of the breaking logs, the flow pattern around breaking logs, .... For this reason, Flanders Hydraulics' budget in 2013 provided for the possibility of outsourcing research. Through conducting scale model tests and CFD modelling, this outsourced study will investigate the general flow pattern around breaker beams and the influence of breaker beams on the flow pattern, shape of breakingr logs, .... |
