This contribution presents the first recorded occurrence of the intertidal isopod Jaera praehirsuta on the Belgian coast. The population occurred extensively under stones in the lower half of the intertidal zone. This latter observation classifies them as belonging to the paucahirsuta form of SOLIGNAC (1967). As it is foreseen that other representatives of the Jaera albifrons-group also occur in Belgium, a key to the genus is provided.
