Eleven species from the U.S.S.R., France and Iran are included in a new genus: Ripidiorhynchus. The oldest known species, Terebratula livonica Von Buch, L., 1834, is chosen as the type species and described in detail. This genus is important because of its restricted range and the resulting conclusions concerning the stratigraphy of the Central Devonian Field of the U.S.S.R.
