This article deals with the territorial sea and continental shelf delimitation agreements reached on the 18th December 1996 between belgium and the Netherlands. It shows what the various bones of contention that have delayed the signing of these agreements for several years were and highlights in detail how they were overcome (mouth of the Escaut river, Wielingen, Rassen shallows, Zeebrugge harbour).
