Abstract
Estimates of annual production of the major component species of macrofauna comprising a hard-bottom community at a depth of 41 m in the Bristol Channel have been made. The sea-bed in this region is covered with extensive reefs of the tube-building polychaete Sabellaria spinulosa. Total production is 34 multiplied by 1 g dry wt m -2 y -1, the mean annual biomass 24 multiplied by 5 g m -2
