Abstract
Samples of Temora longicornis collected during the pre-barrier (1983, 1984) and post-barrier (1988, 1989) from two stations in the Oosterschelde (West-Roompot and East-LGPK) were compared statistically to have an insight of the effect of the cosntruction of the storm-surge barrier on the abundance, body (cephalothorax) length and dry weight of developmental stages of the copepod. A general increase in abundance and in dry weight of all stages is observed in the post-barrier period. A trend of extension of the bloom period and increase in abundance peaks occur in post-barrier period. Female individual dry weight in both pre-barrier years increased significantly in both post-barrier years. These trends can be explained in the light of changes in physical and biological conditions that have taken place as a consequence of the construction of the storm-surge barrier.
