Abstract
SWASH model is a relatively new time-domain wave propagation model based on the non-linear shallow water equations with non-hydrostatic pressure. The applicability of SWASH model for modelling wave transformation and wave overtopping discharge on a shallow foreshore is investigated in this paper. The results from numerical simulations in terms of wave transformation on the shallow foreshore and wave overtopping discharge on the dike crest are compared with physical model data of the same physical test set-up. Good agreement has been obtained for both wave transformation and wave overtopping discharge. It is found that the non-hydrostatic pressure in the model plays an important role in the wave transformation. Also it becomes clear that bottom friction is important calibration parameter for predicting wave overtopping discharge for cases with a wide crested dike.
