Abstract
Errors introduced by various numerical schemes for hydrodynamic models have been analysed for a real situation : the tidal circulation in the English Channel. This analysis is based on the production of harmonics of the M2 tide. This study shows the unability of some schemes to give a good representation of tidal harmonics. For this reason-independently of difficulties to obtain precise boundary conditions-it is always hazardous to calculate the residual circulation by averaging the transient circulation.
