Abstract
Five African and South-American Cichlid species have been compared from osteological and myological points of view, with reference to a previous study of the genus Tilapia. Bones, muscles and their relations appear very constant in the whole family; specific peculiarities have however been pointed out. Crenicichla multispinosa, a stream-dwelling species, shows much more originality, in relation with its ecological adaptations. Within the limits of the present work, neotropical species can be characterized as bearing no spines on the last haemal spine and presenting variable numbers of supraneurals.
