Abstract
The hinterlands of the Meuse and the Scheldt from the 14th to the 16th century are analyzed first of all under the influence exerted internationally by the ports of Bruges, Antwerp and Huy, inserting a rough sketch of the markets of the Mosan inland water transport downwards from Dinant and Bouvignes. From some archives, the relations with the more or less close hinterland are taken into account from a demographic point of view, as well as regarding supply in basic foodstuffs and raw materials for the industry or the building sector. The radical transformation of the Antwerp hinterland and its role at the end of the Middle Ages are recalled and underlined.
