Abstract
Fauna Ibérica, Volume 41: Annelida: Polychaeta IV advances knowledge of the polychaete annelids of the coast of the Iberian Peninsula and the Balearic Islands. This volume includes a detailed study of families Glyceridae, Goniadidae, Capitellidae plus the families Aphroditidae, Polynoidae, Acoetidae, Sigalionidae and Pholoidae, which correspond to the so-called "scaly worms" (superfamily Aphroditoidea). The book includes an in-depth taxonomic and literature review of each family, and provides an elaborate general introduction to each family, addressing the most relevant aspects of their taxonomy, anatomy and systematics. Also included are identification keys for the identification of both genera and species. For each of the 111 species listed in this book, the reader is offered a detailed description of the most relevant morphological aspects, accompanied by a iconography that highlights the main anatomical features, and finally, a synthesis of current knowledge on the biology and geographical distribution. After publication of three earlier polychaete volumes (21, 25 and 36), this volume concludes the revision of the subclade Aciculata (also known as Errantia), and starts the study of members of the "sedentary" polychaete subclade Scolecida.
