Abstract
The yet poorly known stomiiform otoliths from the Carpathian Foredeep are revised and could be completed with five previously unknown taxa. Earlier citations from the Central Paratethys are reconsidered or synonymized. . In the Badenian (Lower part of the Middle Miocene), 10 species are recorded from the Carpatian Foredeep, among them the new species Woodsia emi. Maurolicus muelleri,Valenciennellus tripunctulatus and Vinciguerria poweriae constitute fossil records of Recent cosmopolitic oceanic species. Lower Badenian Paratethys stomiiform taxa seem to show a diversity of the same order as seen in present day Mediterranean stomiiforms.
