Abstract
In this study a detailed model is constructed for the lock of Wintam. For this area it is important to have a well refined grid, which can represent the flow to the lock correctly. Until now this area was simulated only in the NEVLA model, which includes the entire Scheldt estuary. The grid resolution of the overall NEVLA model is too coarse near Wintam for a meaningful application of the model results in the ship simulator of Flanders Hydraulics Research (FHR). Therefore, it was necessary to develop a detailed model for this area. The grid of this model should have a higher resolution than the NEVLA grid and should follow the quay walls better.

The detailed model is developed in the TELEMAC software. The use of an unstructured grid in TELEMAC allows a local grid refinement in the study area and results in an accurate representation of the quay walls in the model. The model is calibrated based on the available water level, velocity and discharge measurements.

The calibrated model will be used to calculate the flow atlas for the study area. This atlas will present the flood and ebb velocities that are important for vessels.
