The aim of this project is to gain a better insight in the possibilities of ADCP-BT for measuring near-bed and bed load transport. This technique has already been used (cfr. Nevelsteen, Rennie, …) and has the advantage that ADCP-backscatter is already used to gain information on the sediment transport in the measuring range of the ADCP. Nowadays several data sets already exist (Cfr. Half-tide ebb, slack transects, 13h-campaigns MONEOS), which lead to opportunities for extra analysis of new techniques.
One of the uncertainties with the ADCP-BT technique is the thickness of the mobile bed layer. Where the velocity of this layer can be measured using the ADCP-BT, the thickness of the layer will determine the actual sediment transport. Therefore this aspect will be focussed on, besides the general applicability of the technique.
